April Nottingham Sprints

Saturday’s wet and windy racing was kicked off for us by Lucy Lee-Smith in the K1 500 with a 2nd place heat and 4thin the final. Flo Duffield’s return to racing was strong, racing everything she could, making finals and a win in K1 1000 final 2.
Kamila Sklenarova had a great day with 2nd places in K1 500 and 1000 and a good strong win in K4 500 with girls from Royal, Reading and Falcon.
Richard Stenning and Michael Anderson had a ding dong battle, both 2ndin their K1 500 heats, Mike racing to 2nd in the final very closely followed by Richard in 3rd.
First timer Will Towler had a busy day, he and Shaun Cook both racing 2 x 500 and 1 x 200. Shaun beating Will in the 500s and Will beating Shaun in the 200.
There was a win for Mike and Jan Sklenar in K2 1000, not so closely followed by me and Gary Smith in 3rd. I blame it on the fact I couldn’t see for the waves breaking over Gary and hitting me in the face.
Saturday was rounded off by the familiar, previously all conquering K2 pairing of Toby Booth and Ben Want racing for old times sake in the 200, with a creditable 4th place. Less pies methinks.
Lucy again kicked off on sunny Sunday with Emily Lewis claiming 2nd in the K2 500 and going one better to 1st in the 200. Lucy also getting 2nd in the K1 200.
Richard and Jan raced to 2nd, Gary and I 3rd, in a very closely fought K2 500 race.
Kamila and Frankie Scrivener gave it all for a 3rdplace in K2 500. Kamila was straight out of the boat into the front of the waiting Boys u18 k4 making it to back to the 500 startline with seconds to spare. A fine effort for the club, thanks Kamila.
A great weekend all round, well done Team Norwich and thanks to all involved, particularly those helping with running the regatta. If you can spare any time and would like to help the regattas to continue to run smoothly, please let me know and I’ll put you in touch. Even just an hour or two would help. It’s fun on the umpire boats.
We await news on GB selections. Next regatta is June 8th 9th.
