Nottingham U23 and Masters Sprint National Championship 2024

Our small but perfectly formed team secured a bumper harvest of 15 medals at this years’ championship.

Our first medal, of the Gold variety, going to Stefania Rosalba in the O44 500. Mike Anderson, Gary (does my bum look big in this boat?) Smith, Jan Sklenar and Adam added four more, with bronze in the considerably O34 k4 1000. Stef collected another Gold with Emma (Gary, how are you gonna fit in that boat?) Taylor in the O44 k2 1000 chased down by Jo Davis and Andrea Hinkova coming home with Bronze medals.

Andrea upgraded to Silver with Suzanne De Bruijn in the O34 k2 500, Stef and Emma Taylor added to their growing collection also with Silver in O44 k2 500.

Jago and Aidan started a good day with 1st in the mens CD k2 500, Jago claiming another win in CD k1 1000 with a not yet fully fit Aidan in 3rd. Joining them with wins were James How and Timothy Dowden in mens AB k2 500 and Kamila Sklenarova in her u18 k4 500.
Our interclub u18 mixed k2 pairings all made finals with Kamila and her Richmond partner claiming 2nd in final 1. Well done Jasmine, Estelle and Kamila.

Day one was rounded off by a pleasant evening in our usual local hostelry. Therein ensued much lubricated debate about enabling those of us with more ample proportions the opportunity of paddling unreasonably skinny boats and the potential methodologies of such an arrangement.

Day two saw our final two championship Silver medals going to Tim Scott and Gary Smith with a superb performance in O54 k2 1000. James and Tim D cemented their dominance with another win in AB k2 1000. Jago narrowly beaten into 2nd place k1 cd 500, Aidan once again 3rd. Kamila and partner Frankie claimed 2nd u18 k2 500 and James a brilliant 2nd in k1 AB 500.

Well done Team.

Thankyou to our regatta volunteers Clifford Lee Smith, Jackie Lee-Smith and Lee Bradshaw, without volunteers we wouldn’t have a regatta.
