Lucy Came 2nd in Waterlands Marathon in Amsterdam paddling for Team GB

Congratulations to?Lucy Lee-Smith?of NCC who came 2nd in the prestigious Waterlands Marathon in Amsterdam paddling for Team GB in the senior ladies. Lucy’s race was combined with the junior ladies as well as the junior men meaning there were 71 boats in total on her start line. She got off to an excellent start settling in just behind the lead group of boys with all the top female athletes. Lucy stayed with this group until 750 metres before the first portage, and then for the rest of the race she was largely on her own but kept the pace high to stay forty seconds ahead of the third senior female and so finished 2nd ahead of established national team athletes from Germany, Hungary and Sweden, many of who raced at the?World?Championships last year as U23 and seniors.
